Psalm 34:19; Romans 8:31-39;

Matthew 14:25-32

Scripture Reading: Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.” (NLT)

#1–Tough Questions & Doubt

  • Tough Times = Tough Questions
  • Tough Times = Doubt

John the Baptist had doubts—Matthew 11:1-6

Thomas, the disciples had doubts—John 20:24-29

God won’t allow more than we can manage. —1 Corinthians 10:13

  • “Faith doesn’t always take you out of the problem, faith takes you through the problem.”
  • “Faith doesn’t always take the pain away; faith gives you the ability to manage the pain.”
  • “Faith doesn’t always take you out of the storm, faith calms you in the midst of the storm.”

#2—Matthew 14:25-32—Our focus makes all the difference

Tough times bring about at least two positive possibilities:

#1-The storm could cause you to trust in God like never before.

#2—The storm could cause you to do something you’ve never done before.

Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

2 Timothy 1:12 “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”

Text: Romans 8:31-39; John 16:33;

John 9:1-3

Scripture Reading: Psalm 121:5-8 “The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.” (ESV)

  • Romans 8:31-39 Tough Times Never Last but God is always with you!
  • John 9:1-3 What did I do wrong? Or Who sinned?
  • Disappointment with God
  • Doubt vs Unbelief
  • Matthew 11 John the Baptist had a doubt
  • John 20:24-28 Thomas the disciple had a doubt
  • 1 Corinthians 10:13 God won’t allow us to go through more than we can handle. Really?
  • Proverbs 3:5-6; Proverbs 14:12; Isaiah 55:8-9
  • 1 Peter 5:6-7 What does it mean to be “humble?”

We were not created to be “self-sufficient.” We were not created to go through life in our own strength or our own understanding. We were created to be dependent upon God.

Hebrews 1:1-3

Scripture Reading: Psalm 146:5-6 “The person who knows that the God of Jacob will help him is a happy person! If he trusts in the Lord as his God, he is happy. Jesus Christ (Messiah)—Anointed One

          Jesus’ anointing—Matthew 3:16-17

Old Testament Priests were “mediators” between men and God.

Priests—Hebrews 5:1-3

Before they could offer a sacrifice on behalf of others, they had to offer a sacrifice for their own sin.

Jesus came to be the “perfect sacrifice” and the “once and for all sacrifice.”

John 1:29; Hebrews 7:26-27

As our High Priest, not only does Jesus mediate for us with God, but He has reconciled us to God (2 Corinthians 5:18), He continually makes intercession on our behalf (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25) and is our Advocate when we sin (1 John 2:1-2).
