• Job stayed focused on God and God’s faithfulness—Job 13:15; 19:25-26; 23:8-12.

#2—Tough Times—Matthew 14:25-32

• Tough Times could cause you to trust in God like never before.
• Tough Times could cause you to do something you’ve never done before in an act of faith or an act of trusting in God.

#3—1 Peter 5:6-7

• Humble
• God will exalt you in due time.
• Cast your cares upon Him.
• God cares for you.
• God’s Kingdom has no “hermits” or “recluses”

#1–Tough Questions & Doubt

• Tough Times = Tough Questions
• Tough Times = Doubt

John the Baptist had doubts—Matthew 11:1-6

Thomas, the disciples had doubts—John 20:24-29

God won’t allow more than we can manage. —1 Corinthians 10:13

• “Faith doesn’t always take you out of the problem, faith takes you through the problem.”
• “Faith doesn’t always take the pain away; faith gives you the ability to manage the pain.”
• “Faith doesn’t always take you out of the storm, faith calms you in the midst of the storm.”

#2—Matthew 14:25-32—Our focus makes all the difference

Tough times bring about at least two positive possibilities:

#1-The storm could cause you to trust in God like never before.

#2—The storm could cause you to do something you’ve never done before.

Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

2 Timothy 1:12 “For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.”

• 1 Corinthians 10:13 God won’t allow us to go through more than we can handle. Really?

• 1 Peter 5:6-7 What does it mean to be “humble?”

We were not created to be “self-sufficient.” We were not created to go through life in our own strength or our own understanding. We were created to be dependent upon God.

Psalm 129

Stick-to-itiveness—perseverance, tenacity. The quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult or unpleasant.
